Resources

  1. DEMOGRAPHICS. Reports with current neighborhood data are now available to all churches 24/7 at no charge. NIC churches can create their own user-friendly customized demographic studies by going to www.missioninsite.com and clicking on “Client Log-in.” Contact Ed Fenstermacher at ed@nicumc.org (or 800 783-5138) for the regional agency account number to set up your username and password. See the MissionInsite User Guide for more information.
  2. COMMUNITY STUDIES. Free guides for conducting interviews with community leaders and windshield tours. Visit www.nicumc.org/cd/tools/community/guides.php for copies.
  3. GRANTS. A limited number of grants are being offered for launching new worship services, ethnic-minority faith communities, and off-site congregations. Visit www.nicumc.org/grants/cdgrants.php for a list of available grants.
  4. CONSULTATIONS/COACHING. On-site consultations and coaching can be arranged for churches needing specialized help. There may be a fee for such a consultation. Contact Ed Fenstermacher for details.
  5. BOOK STUDIES. Studying as a group one of the following books could be a helpful next step for churches unsure as to where to begin their Sending of the Saints effort:
    • Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations, Robert Schnase, Abingdon, 2007
    • Breaking the Missional Code: Your Church Can Become a Missionary in Your Community, Ed Stetzer & David Putnam, Broadman & Holman, 2006.
    • Unbinding the Gospel (as well as Unbinding Your Heart and Unbinding Your Church), Martha Grace Reese, Chalice Press, 2007.
    • Operation In as Much: Mobilizing Believers Beyond the Walls of the Church, David W. Crocker, Lake Hickory Resources, 2005.
    • Partners in the Mighty Works of God, Jo & Russ Harris, Discipleship Resources, 1999. Designed for Anglo UM churches that want to explore ministry with Hispanics/Latinos.
